Anna McLeod Repeats as Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian’s Anna McLeod is once again the Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland weekly honors are presented by Hercules Tires.

McLeod continued last week’s offensive onslaught with back-to-back performances, scoring 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting to push her season scoring average to 20.3 points per game. The guard opened with 29 minutes at home in the Wildcats’ 95-49 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor and followed up with 36 minutes in a 77-59 loss on the road against No. 10 Texas A&M.

The award marks the second-straight weekly honor for the redshirt senior and the second of her career. ACU is back in action Tuesday, Dec. 15, at home against UT Tyler with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.

McLeod averaged 18 points per game and shot 42.9 percent from the field, helping the Wildcats to a 1-1 record last week. Her 18 points and four triples against the nationally-ranked Aggies marked a game-high performance. The guard has now connected on 24 three-pointers through six games, elevating her to fourth in the nation for successful three-point field goals. McLeod also ranks 11th nationally with four made triples per contest.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
