Anna McLeod Captures Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian’s Anna McLeod is the Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland weekly honors are presented by Hercules Tires.

McLeod pushed the Wildcats to a perfect 4-0 start with a pair of standout performances where she averaged 25 points on 50-percent shooting for the week. She opened with 23 points in the Wildcats’ 95-55 win over UT-Permian Basin and finished with 28 points in an 81-61 victory on the road against Northern Colorado. The ACU guard ranks second in the conference averaging 21.5 points per game on the season and leads the league with 18 triples for a 60 percent three-point field goal average.

The weekly award marks the first of McLeod’s Southland career. Abilene Christian is back in action Thursday night at home against Mary Hardin-Baylor in a 5:30 p.m. tip.

McLeod filled out the scoring column last week, averaging 25 points in the Wildcats’ two matchups. The redshirt senior set career-high marks in single game points (28), made field goals (9) and made three-pointers (7) in the 20-point win over Northern Colorado. Her seven triples against the Bears stand as the third-most in an ACU contest since completing the transition to Division I. Four games into the season, she is averaging 53.1 percent from the field and has knocked down 18 of her 30 three-point field goal attempts on the year.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
