FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Bowling League announced its 2019-20 Academic Honor Roll Wednesday, recognizing 58 student-athletes across the league’s eight institutions. The SBL Academic Honor Roll is presented by GEICO.

Leading the way on the honor roll are Arkansas State, Valparaiso and Youngstown State with nine selections apiece. Louisiana Tech came in next with eight honorees, followed by Stephen F. Austin’s seven selections. Vanderbilt notched six honorees, just ahead of Sam Houston State and Tulane, which notched five selections apiece.

Louisiana Tech freshmen Sara Howell and Tara Spridco achieved perfect 4.0 GPAs for the Lady Techsters, joining Youngstown State’s Sarah Florence and Emma Wrenn. Howell and Spridco completed their freshmen campaigns as political science and elementary/special education majors, respectively. Florence completed her junior year as a public health major for the Penguins, while Wrenn closed out her sophomore season as a business major.

The Southland Bowling League closed out the 2019-20 season with seven programs finishing among the National Tenpin Coaches Association’s (NTCA) Top-25. Twelve SBL student-athletes were recognized as NTCA All-Americans, including Division I Rookie of the Year Allie Leiendecker from Louisiana Tech.

The SBL Academic Honor Roll was put into place during the 2018-19 school year and is currently in its second season of recognition. All nominees for the Southland Bowling League’s Academic Honor Roll team must have earned at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least one year at the nominating institution.
