SFA’s Robinson, HBU’s Welch Earn Weekly Men’s Indoor Track & Field Awards
FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin’s Auhmad Robinson and Houston Baptist’s Christopher Welch are the Southland Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Southland weekly honors are presented by

Robinson found a spot on the podium twice for the Lumberjacks over the weekend at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo. The freshman opened with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line for a 21.03 and topping the field for 10 points in Stephen F. Austin’s overall score. Robinson also ran anchor for SFA in the 4x400-yard relay, helping his team to a 3:17.24 second-place finish. The award marks the first of his collegiate career.
Welch took top honors in the triple jump at the 2021 KMS Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., over the weekend. The junior opened with an impressive 15.27m (50-01.25 feet) effort on his first attempt and ultimately topped it with a 15.29m (50-02.0 feet) on his sixth and final jump of the weekend. Welch beat the second-place finisher by .8 meters to earn first-place honors. His latest weekly award marks the fifth of his career and the first of the season.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Auhmad Robinson, Stephen F. Austin – Fr. – Spring, Texas
Auhmad had a stellar performance at the Air Force Invitational over the weekend, running a blistering time of 21.03 in the 200m to win the event. That mark leads the Southland Conference and currently ranks 10th nationally. Additionally, Auhmad ran the final leg of SFA’s 4x440-yard relay, which finished second with a time of 3:16.10, a time which ranks second in the Southland this season.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Christopher Welch, Houston Baptist – Jr. – Dickinson, Texas
Welch opened his indoor season by capturing first place in the triple jump event at the KMS Invitational over the weekend. He outleaped the second-place finisher by nearly three feet and moved to 19th in the nation for triple jump performances this season.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots.
