HBU’s Timia Jefferson Tabbed Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
FRISCO, Texas – HBU’s Timia Jefferson is the Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland weekly honors are presented by GEICO.
Jefferson turned in an impressive performance for the Huskies (3-1), scoring the most points in both contests. The junior guard averaged 18.5 points while shooting 50 percent from the field and converted 94.1 percent of her attempts from the free throw line. The Mansfield, Texas, native set a school record against Hartford with 13 free throws made in the game, a record that had stood strong since 2009.
The award marks the first of Jefferson’s career. The Huskies are back in action in Albuquerque, N.M., where they will face New Mexico Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. CT.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week – Timia Jefferson, HBU – Jr. – Guard – Mansfield, Texas
The junior guard led the HBU offense in a pair of wins last week against Texas Wesleyan and Hartford. Jefferson recorded double-digit points in each game with 14 points Tuesday and 23 Thursday. She recorded a school record with 13 free throws in the Huskies 81-56 win over the Hawks.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
