Alecia Westbrook Tabbed Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Alecia Westbrook is the Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland weekly honors are presented by GEICO.
Westbrook averaged a double-double of 15.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game to go along with 3.3 steals per game last week. The Kansas City, Mo., native, opened the week with 29 minutes and 16 points at home in the Islanders’ 81-61 win over Pacific (11/22). She followed up with 33 minutes and 17 points in a 87-65 loss on the road against Denver (11/26) and closed out the weekend with 34 minutes and 14 points, eight rebounds, and six free throws in an 81-61 loss to Tulane (11/27).
Westbrook was named to the Denver All-Tournament team for her efforts.
The award marks Westbrooks’ first weekly honor of her career. A&M-Corpus Christi is back in action Sunday, Dec. 5, at home against St. Edwards with a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.

Westbrook averaged 15.7 points per game and 10.3 rebounds in three games for the Islanders. The junior finished the Denver Classic Tournament with 31 points and 16 rebounds to land a spot on the Denver All-Tournament Team.
