No. 2 McNeese Uses Early Goals to Eliminate No. 7 Nicholls

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – No. 2 seed McNeese ran its win streak to four matches with a 2-0 victory over No. 7 Nicholls to open the 2021 Southland Conference Soccer Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer Stadium.
The Cowgirls had several missed chances early on with four shots that went wide or high before Keely Morrow’s back-door header on a corner from Kiana Kukaua opened the scoring in the 31
st minute.
McNeese doubled its lead just five minutes later when Kambrie McFarland’s through-ball found Jillian Bech, who slotted one past Reagan Carter for her third goal of the year.
Emma Roccaforte and Jackie Kelly combined for the shutout in goal with Kelly making the sole save of the day. Nicholls keeper Reagan Carter made five stops to put her over 100 on the year (104).
The Cowgirls will face the winner of Wednesday’s second match between No. 3 UIW and No. 6 HBU in the semifinals at 4 p.m. CT Friday.
