NSU’s Bolden Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State’s Monette Bolden is the Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland weekly honors are presented by GEICO.
Bolden led all scorers in both games for the Lady Demons this week with a career-high 21 points at ULM and 18 against Tarleton State. The graduate guard averaged 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals. Her five steals against ULM marked a career high. The Abbeville, La., native shot 52 percent from the field (16-31) and 50 percent from beyond the arc (4-8) to average 19.5 points over two games.
 
This marks the first weekly honor of Bolden’s career; and she is the fourth Lady Demon to be tabbed Player of the Week this season. NSU returns to the court Tuesday, Dec. 28, at 7 p.m. against Kansas.

The Abbeville, La., native finished 3-for-3 from the free-throw line, shot 52 percent from the field, and 50 percent from beyond the arc to average 19.5 points over two games against UL Monroe and Tarleton State. She recorded a career-high 21 points, five steals and went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc against ULM. Bolden finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists against the Texans Saturday.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
