Lady Demons’ Woodson Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State’s Jiselle Woodson is the Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland weekly honors are presented by GEICO.

Woodson had a breakout week for the Lady Demons averaging 20.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in a pair of games on the road. The Corner, Ala., native, opened the week with a career-high 23 points against Wichita State (11/29). Woodson stayed hot from distance going 4-for-6 en route to her 18-point effort in NSU’s 80-76 win over Arkansas State (12/2). The junior guard shot 82 percent (9-11) from beyond the arc and 61 percent (14-23) from the field last week.

The award marks Woodson’s first weekly honor of her career. Northwestern State hits the road for a 2 p.m. tipoff against Mississippi Valley on Saturday, Dec. 11.

Woodson scored a career-high 23 points against Wichita State Monday, where she poured in the final seven points of the second quarter for NSU and 16 in the second half. The junior went 8-for-10 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc. Woodson’s 18-point effort Thursday night led the Lady Demons to an 80-76 win over Arkansas State. The junior guard averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in NSU’s two games last week.
