SFA’s Robinson, UNO’s Gvero Named Men’s Indoor Athletes of the Week
FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin’s Auhmad Robinson and New Orleans’ Vojislav Gvero are the Southland Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Southland weekly award winners are presented by
Hercules Tires.
Robinson claims his second Track Athlete of the Week honor this season after a standout performance for the Lumberjacks at the H-Town Speedcity Series in Houston, Texas, last weekend. The freshman claimed a first-place finish in the 400-meter event with a time of 47.65, a mark that stands second in the Southland this season. Robinson also secured a second-place performance in the 200m race after crossing the finish line with a personal-best time of 21.12, ranking 33rd nationally this season. He also ran the second leg of the 4x400m relay for the ‘Jacks, pushing the team to a second-place finish with a 3:16.76.
Gvero secured his first Southland weekly honor after cementing a program record for the Privateers at the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., over the weekend. The junior thrower tossed a first-place mark of 18.71m (61-4.75 ft) in the weight throw event, moving him up the national performance list to the No. 88 position. Following the weekend, Gvero currently leads the Southland with his latest weight throw performance.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Auhmad Robinson, Stephen F. Austin – Fr. – Spring, Texas
Robinson finished second in the 200m event with a time of 21.12, a mark that ranks second in the Southland this season and tied for 33rd nationally. He then won the 400m race with a personal-best performance of 47.65, a time that also ranks second in the league this season.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Vojislav Gvero, New Orleans – Jr. – Belgrade, Serbia
Gvero set a program record in the weight throw for New Orleans over the weekend with a heave of 18.71-meters (61-04.75). His weight throw performance took first-place honors at the meet, ranks first in the Southland, and stands 83rd in the NCAA this season. Gvero also competed in the shot put, where he finished 13th overall.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots.
