Ladyjacks Sweep Weekly Southland Softball Awards
FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin’s Shaylon Govan and Kassidy Wilbur are the Southland Conference Softball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland weekly honors are presented by
Hercules Tires.
Govan made four appearances for the Ladyjacks (10-7, 3-0 SLC) last week, helping her squad to wins in all four contests and extending SFA’s win streak to nine games. She ignited the ‘Jacks offense with 10 hits on 13 appearances for 10 RBI and six extra-base hits, four of which were home runs. She rung up a .769 batting average, a 1.846 slugging percentage and a .800 on-base percentage.
Wilbur erupted for a monstrous week in the circle for SFA, surrendering just one run in her four starts and 23.2 innings of work. The junior currently ranks 14th in the nation for shutouts (3) after blanking Louisiana Tech (March 9) and UIW (March 12) in the second of the three-game series.
Wilbur’s Pitcher of the Week honor is the fourth of her career, while Govan’s Hitter of the Week award marks the first of her career. The Ladyjacks return to the diamond Tuesday, March 16, on the road against Baylor. First pitch against the Bears is slated for 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on
ESPN+.
Softball Hitter of the Week – Shalon Govan, Stephen F. Austin – 1B – So. – Katy, Texas
Govan put up video game type numbers this week in SFA’s four dominant victories, posting a .769 batting average to go along with a scorching 1.846 slugging percentage. Govan totaled 10 hits in 13 at bats and accrued six extra base hits, including four home runs. She drove in 10 runs and scored nine others, while striking out just once in the four games. She hit two home runs in Tuesday’s home opener against Louisiana Tech and added round-trippers in the first and third game of the series sweep against UIW. She had at least two runs scored and two hits in every game this week, as the Ladyjacks built onto its nine-game winning streak and a 3-0 start to league play.

Softball Pitcher of the Week – Kassidy Wilbur, Stephen F. Austin – RHP – Jr. – Bridge City, Texas
Wilbur was lights out once again for SFA during their four-win week, starting all four games in the circle and earning the win in each. She threw complete game shutouts against Louisiana Tech and UIW, hurling 23.2 innings on the week. She held opponents to a .101 batting average and surrendered just one earned run for a miniscule 0.38 earned-run average for the week. Wilbur gave up just eight hits and fanned 30 batters across the four victories, and now leads the conference in wins (9), strikeouts (113) and innings pitched (80.0).
