HAMMOND, La. –
Southeastern Louisiana University has extended the contract of head softball coach Rick Fremin through the 2024 season, Southeastern Director of Athletics Jay Artigues announced on Wednesday.

Fremin recently completed his sixth season at the helm of the Southeastern program and has led the Lady Lions to four straight winning seasons – including the top two single-season win totals in school history in 2019 (38-21) and 2018 (34-23).

SLU has made three straight trips to the Southland Conference Tournament under Fremin, who has a 164-136 mark during his time in Hammond. All of Fremin's teams have led Division I in stolen bases or stolen bases per game throughout his Southeastern tenure. Southeastern has had two NFCA Golden Shoe Award winners, two All-South Region performers, 22 All-Southland Conference honorees and 13 All-Louisiana selection under Fremin's tutelage.

"Rick has done a great job with our softball program," Artigues said. "We've progressed to the point where we're consistently contending for conference championships annually, which says a lot about Rick and the program as a whole."

Fremin, a Belle Chasse, Louisiana native, is excited to continue to grow the Southeastern softball program.

"I'm very excited and honored to have the opportunity to continue the process hear at Southeastern," Fremin said. "The future is bright and our best is still ahead of us. I'm humbled that our administration has the belief in my ability to lead our program."

The Lady Lions begin their preseason competition on Sept. 24 with a 5 p.m. 10-inning exhibition versus Northwest Florida State College at North Oak Park. Southeastern will open the 2022 season on Feb. 11, hosting Southeast Missouri at 5 p.m. on the opening day of Lion Classic I at North Oak Park.
