UNO’s Green Garners Fourth Career Southland Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor
FRISCO, Texas – New Orleans’ Troy Green is the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Weekly awards are presented by
GEICO.
The senior guard averaged 23.5 points and 6.5 rebounds to push the Privateers to a pair of wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (78-69) and UIW (84-57). Green converted 18-of-33 (.545) attempts from the field, passing Wilbur Holland for sixth on the program’s all-time list with 566 career field-goals made.
The Privateers (15-9, 8-1 SLC) return to the court Saturday to host McNeese at 4 p.m. CT inside Lakefront Arena, where UNO has won eight straight.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week – Troy Green, New Orleans – Senior – Guard – St. Rose, La.
Green started the week with a bang, registering a season-high 29 points and six rebounds in a 78-69 win over A&M-Corpus Christi. He contributed 20 of his 29 points in the second half, helping the team erase an eight-point deficit early in the second period. Green shot 10-of-21 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Looking to avenge the team’s lone loss in league play, Green poured in 18 points in a decisive 84-57 victory against UIW, firing an impressive 8-of-12 from the field. The league’s leading rebounding guard in conference play (8.2), he grabbed seven boards against the Cardinals.
This marks Green’s second weekly award of the season and the fourth of his career.
