HBU’s Miller, MCN’s Rogers Earn First Southland Baseball Weekly Honors
FRISCO, Texas – HBU’s Jake Miller is the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week and McNeese starter Grant Rogers earns Pitcher of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday. Weekly awards are presented by
GEICO.
Miller recorded multi-hit performances in each of the Huskies’ first three games, hitting .583 against Rutgers over the weekend with three RBI, a pair of runs scored and a home run. HBU (0-3) visits Baylor at 6:30 p.m. CT Tuesday before hosting crosstown foe Rice at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Both mid-week tilts will be shown on ESPN+. Then, the Huskies will turn their attention to hosting Hofstra for a three-game series set to begin with a 2 p.m. first pitch Friday.
In the rubber match against Stony Brook, McNeese turned to Panola Community College transfer Grant Rogers to make his Division I debut. The redshirt sophomore didn’t disappoint, tossing six innings of two-hit ball with eight strikeouts to help the Cowboys secure a series victory. McNeese (2-1) continues its eight-game homestand to open the year with a matchup against Houston at 6 p.m. Tuesday before hosting Alcorn for a four-game set, beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
Hitter of the Week – Jake Miller, HBU – Senior – Infielder – Round Rock, Texas
Miller accounted for two of the team’s three hits in the season opener against Rutgers. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run on Saturday and capped the weekend by going 3-for-5 at the plate with a solo blast and an RBI single. Miller paces the Southland and ranks 20
th among Division I student-athletes in hits per game (2.33).

Pitcher of the Week – Grant Rogers, McNeese – Redshirt Sophomore – Pitcher – Groves, Texas
Making his Division I debut, Rogers recorded a quality start with eight strikeouts scattered over six innings and just one run on two hits. He didn’t allow a baserunner until Stony Brook got a leadoff single in the fourth but Rogers responded by retiring the next three batters in order. Rogers went on to record five of his final six outs by the strikeout.
