Field Set for 2022 Southland Women’s Basketball Tournament
FRISCO, Texas – The 2021-22 Southland Conference Women's Basketball regular season concluded Saturday, finalizing all eight of the tournament seeds in next week's 2022 Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. Postseason play begins Thursday, March 10, at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
HBU secured its first regular-season title in program history after a 12-2 run in conference play. The Huskies clinched the title outright by defeating McNeese 68-61 Saturday, earning the No. 1 seed at the upcoming Southland tournament.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished next in the standings with an 11-3 conference record to garner the No. 2 seed. Along with the Huskies, the Islanders will be awarded a double-bye and an automatic path to the semifinal rounds of the tournament.
Southeastern (10-4) and McNeese (8-6) also get a first-round bye by slotting into the No. 3 and 4 seeds, respectively.
Although UIW and Northwestern State finished tied in the final standings at 5-9 in conference play, the Cardinals earned the No. 5 seed tiebreaker by virtue of head-to-head results, defeating the Lady Demons twice earlier this season.
Tournament play begins Thursday, March 10, at 11 a.m. CT with game one between No. 8-seed Nicholls and No. 5-seed UIW. The Colonels and the Cardinals split in the regular season, with each team winning at home. Game two will follow at 1:30 p.m. with No. 6 Northwestern State against No. 7 New Orleans. The Lady Demons and Privateers split in the regular season.
Day two begins at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, as No. 4 McNeese squares off against the winner of game one. No. 3-seed Southeastern is pitted against the winner of UIW and Northwestern State in the fourth matchup of the tournament with a 1:30 p.m. tip. Semifinal rounds will commence Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m. with No. 1 HBU taking on the winner of game three. No. 2-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will face off against the winner of game four in a 3:30 p.m. tipoff. All preliminary rounds can be seen on ESPN+.
Sunday's championship matchup is slated for a 1 p.m. tip and will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

The tournament champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball tournament.
