FRISCO, Texas – UIW's Brandon Porter, HCU's Isaiah Cash, and Lamar's Alfonso Deleon are the winners of the Southland Conference’s football weekly awards for the eighth week of the season, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Offensive Player of the Week: Brandon Porter, UIW – WR – Gr. – Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. (Oak Hills HS)
It yet another stellar day for wide receiver Brandon Porter of UIW as he paced the Cardinals offense to a huge 17-7 win over Lamar in a battle of conference unbeatens. Porter hauled in six balls for 101 yards and a touchdown that came in the first half. It was the nation's leader yards per game sixth game with six receptions or more and his third game eclipsing 100 or more yards. Porter aso added two carries for 11 yards on the afternoon.
Defensive Player of the Week: Isaiah Cash, HCU – S – Jr. – Ausitn, Texas (Rouse HS)
Safety Isaiah Cash had a huge game for the Houston Christian defense in their 17-13 win over Texas A&M-Commerce. Cash had two interceptions on the day, including a pick in the end zone with less than two minutes to play with HCU leading by 4, helping to secure the win over A&M-Commerce. Cash also had a pass breakup on the afternoon and totaled eight tackles for the Huskies in the win to bring them to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the SLC.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Alfonso Deleon – P – Sr. – Shereveport, La. (Captain Shreve HS)
Punter Alfonso Deleon made a huge impact for Lamar in their battle with No. 4 UIW. Deleon averaged 45.0 yards per punt on seven punts including a bomb of 61 yards. Deleon had three punts of 50 yards or more, but maybe the most important factor was down two punts inside the five yard line, as he pinned UIW at the two yard line on two different occasions. It played a huge factor in field position all game long.
