Nicholls' Guggenheim, Morton; Lamar's Harris Named Football Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls' Collin Guggenheim and Tyler Morton as well as Lamar's Damashja Harris are the winners of the Southland Conference’s football weekly awards for the sixth week of the season, as announced by the conference office Monday.

Offensive Player of the Week: Collin Guggenheim, Nicholls– RB – Jr. – Kenner, La. (John Curtis)
Running back Collin Guggenheim rushed for four touchdowns in the 38-7 win over HCU, tying the program's single-game record. Guggenheim gave Nicholls the lead for good with a rushing TD in the second quarter before finding the end zone three times in the third. He did not play in the fourth quarter as Nicholls held a 31-point lead over the Huskies in their first home contest since August. He finished with 64 yards rushing on 16 carries, moving into the Top 10 of the Colonels' all-time rushing yards list.

Defensive Player of the Week: Tyler Morton, Nicholls – S – Jr. – St. Rose, La. (Destrehan HS)
Safety Tyler Morton turned in his second straight two-turnover effort, recording a pair of interceptions in the first half in the win over HCU. His first pick came on the opening possession and led to a short TD drive. He then followed with an interception just before halftime, returning it 29 yards. Morton totaled six tackles and a breakup to go along with his two interceptions. The Colonel defense limited HCU to 220 total yards and just 46 rushing after the Huskies averaged 228.0 on the ground in their first two league games.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week: Damashja Harris, Lamar – RB – So. – Killeen, Texas (Ellison HS)
Running back Damashja Harris made a huge impact in the return game last Saturday against Northwestern State. After the Demons scored to tie the game in the second quarter, Harris stole the momentum right back with a 95-yard kick return for a touchdown to push the Cardinals ahead for good. His return was a top-10 long return in school history and Harris' second return for a touchdown in his career.
