Lamar's Sabria Dean wins opening SLC Women's Basketball Player of the Week award,
FRISCO, Texas – Lamar's Sabria Dean has won the opening SLC Women's Basketball Player of the Week award for the 2023-24 season, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Player of the Week: Sabria Dean, Lamar – Sr. – Mineola, TX (Mineola High School)
Dean averaged 20.0 points per game in Lamar's first two contests of the season. After a 10 point effort in the season-opener against Texas College, she poured in a mammoth 30 points on the road at UT-Arlington to help the Cardinals knock off the Mavericks. Dean was 9-of-15 from the field and went 11-of-13 at the free throw line, en route to the Cardinals starting the season with back-to-back victories. This was Dean's second career 30-point game. Dean was the SLC Freshman of the Year in 2021, and came into this season having averaged 13.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last year. Lamar are 2-0 to start the year for the first time since the opening weekend of the 2018-19 season.
