UNO's Forester, UIW's Hudgens win Southland Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards

FRISCO, Texas – Jaden Forester of New Orleans and Isaiah Hudgens of UIW are the honorees for the Southland Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week award for the fourth week of the 2023 season, as announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Jaden Forester, New Orleans - So. - La Mesa, Calif. (Helix Charter HS)
Forester kicked things into high gear for the Privateers early Saturday morning, finishing the men's mile at the Boston University Scarlet and White Invite in 4:04.54 - breaking his own school record for the second time this season. Forester finished in 10th place out of 61 runners, and now owns the top two mile times in the Southland this season. This time ranks 7th in the South Central Region. He also finished 24th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:25.66 - the fourth fastest time in the Southland this season. This is his second SLC Athlete of the Week honor in the indoor season.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Isaiah Hudgens, UIW - San Antonio, Texas (Homeschool)
Hudgens won the hepathlon at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic with a score of 5,338 points, which is tops in the Southland this season. He had the top mark in the 1,000 meters at 2:51.89. This mark ranks in the top 10 in the South Central Region and top 50 in the nation.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
