NSU's Chaffin and AMCC's Aholelei earn Southland Softball Player of the Week accolades

FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State's Makenzie Chaffin picked up Hitter of the Week honors and A&M-Corpus Christi's Primrose Aholelei won the Pitcher of the Week award as the Southland Conference Softball Player of the Week awards for the fourth week of the 2023 season were announced Monday by the conference office.

Hitter of the Week: Makenzie Chaffin, Northwestern State - Jr. - OF - Bossier City, La. (Airline HS)
Chaffin was the hottest and most consistent bat for Northwestern State in a 4-0 home tournament weekend. Chaffin hit two no-doubter home runs for the Demons, went 7-for-11 (.636) at the plate with a 1.182 slugging percentage and scored five runs. She also walked twice on the week and stole two bases. Chaffin had a pair of 3-for-3 games, one against each of NSU's two opponents on the week, scoring two runs each time, as the Demons pounded out 32 hits and scored 24 runs in four wins.

Pitcher of the Week: Primrose Aholelei, A&M-Corpus Christi - Jr. - RHP - Honolulu, Hawai'i (Henry J. Kaiser HS)
Aholelei had a 3-1 week in the circle for the Islanders where she threw all complete-games for 27.1 innings of work. She recorded wins over UTSA, North Texas and Iowa State and only gave up six earned runs in her four appearances to average a 1.98 ERA on the week. She struck out 25 batters and now leads the conference in strikeouts with 62 on the season.
