Stuart of NSU, Purcell of AMCC take Southland Baseball Player of the Week awards

FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State's Daunte Stuart tied a school homer record and A&M-Corpus Christi's Colin Purcell twirled a one-hitter, as the duo were the winners of the Southland Baseball Player of the Week awards for the third week of the 2023 season, which were announced Monday by the conference office.

Hitter of the Week: Daunte Stuart, Northwestern State- Sr. - 2B - The Woodlands, Texas (The Woodlands HS)
After missing Friday's series opener against UT Arlington, Stuart returned and went 5-for-5 with three home runs -- tying a school record -- including the game-winning, walk-off homer in the ninth inning. He scored five runs and drove in four while setting a school record for total bases in a game (14). Stuart reached base in nine straight plate appearances from Tuesday's win through Saturday's victory -- 2 singles and 2 walks against SFA, 3 HRs and 2 singles vs. UT Arlington. He had a weekly OPS of 2.314 and the Demons were 2-1 with him in the lineup.

Pitcher of the Week: Colin Purcell, A&M-Corpus Christi - Jr. - RHP - Tomball, Texas (Tomball Memorial HS)
Purcell pitched a one-hitter shutout game against Lindenwood on Sunday in an 8-0 victory less than seven days after making a start against Utah where he pitched six full innings. He finished the week with a 1.20 ERA on 15.0 innings of work while striking out 11 batters, three of which were Utes. He only walked one batter with no hit by pitches
