Rogers' Complete Game Shutout Lead No.6 McNeese Over No.7 A&M-Corpus Christi

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The two-time Southland Pitcher of the Year lived up to his billing on Tuesday evening as Grant Rogers tossed a complete game shutout to lead No. 6 McNeese to a 4-0 win over No. 7 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the play-in game of the 2023 Southland Baseball Championship.

The Cowboys will move on to the six-team double elimination bracket and will take on top-seeded Nicholls tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. No. 2 UIW will take Northwestern State in the opener at 11 a.m. while No. 3 Lamar will take on No. 4 New Orleans at 2:30 p.m.

Tré Obregon opened the up in the bottom of the first as he blasted a two-run shot over the right field wall to give the Cowboys the early advantage. It was all Rogers would need as he cruised through nine innings of worked in less than two hours, improving to 12-1 on the season.

McNeese pushed the advantage to 4-0 as Josh Leslie and Braley Hollins each drove in a run on RBI doubles. Brad Burckel finished 3-for-4 with two runs scores while Hollins was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

The Islanders managed seven hits, but left six runners on base in the contest. Tre Jones continued his rock star performance with a 4-for-4 day including a stolen base and the only extra base hit for the Islanders on a double.

McNeese improves to 34-21 overall, while the Islanders season comes to a close at 24-30 overall.
