FRISCO, Texas – Michael Dattalo of Northwestern State and Jacob Mead of New Orleans are the winners of the Southland Baseball Player of the Week awards for the 12th week of the 2023 season, which were announced Monday by the conference office.

Hitter of the Week: Michael Dattalo, Northwestern State - Fr. - 1B/3B - Keller, Texas (Keller HS)
The Southland's leading hitter had three multi-hit games in a four-game week, capping it by going 4-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run and four RBIs in Sunday's win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. That home run gave the Demons a lead they never relinquished and was part of his third four-hit game of the season, with the four RBIs and four runs scored going for season highs. He had an extra-base hit in every game last week, including two homeruns in three games against the Islanders. Dattalo took over the league lead with 70 hits.

Pitcher of the Week: Jacob Mead, New Orleans - R-Sr. - RHP - Round Rock, Texas (Cedar Ridge HS)
Mead was lights out as he emerged in the closer's role. Without a save before the week began, Mead picked up three for the Privateers last week. He entered into a bases loaded, no out situation against Jackson State and struck out the next three. Mead went on to pick up two saves against HCU and pitched five combined innings in those two appearances.
