FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference has announced the additions of Andrew Bechac as Associate Commissioner of Football and Championships and Greg Young as General Manager of Basketball.
Bechac will serve as the primarily liasion and sports management for the Conference's football and other assigned sports. Bechac served as the Deputy Director of Athletics at Southeastern Louisiana University and has been a key member of the department's senior administrative staff since August 2005.
Bechac oversaw the budget planning, personnel management and scheduling for all Athletics Department Event Management and Facilities. He also asssited with football scheduling, contract development and conference contest confirmations.
During his time at Southeastern, he had been the chair of or served on numerous search committees and various operational committees. He also played a major role in the upgrade of athletic facilities throughout campus. Bechac also was a part of the operations team assisting the Southland Conference at the NCAA Division I Football Championship and the Southland Conference Basketball Championships.
Young, a 35-year coaching veteran with deep Lone Star State roots, was in his 14th season with UTA in 2022-23. He had previously served as an assistant (2009-13), associate (2013-21) or head (2021-22) coach for the program.
In Young’s 13+ seasons with the Mavericks, UTA went 239-199 (.546) and advanced to the postseason four times: 2012 NIT, 2013 CIT, 2016 CIT and 2017 NIT. The Mavs were Southland Conference regular-season champions in 2011-12, reached the Western Athletic Conference Tournament championship game in 2013 and earned the Sun Belt Conference regular season title in 2017. Additionally, UTA went to back-to-back Sun Belt Tournament championship games in 2018 and 2019.
