FRISCO, Texas – Following the achievement of their 12th Southland regular season title, SFA landed eight players on the Southland All-Conference Teams, announced by the conference office Monday.
The Lumberjacks represented well among the superlative awards, claiming of the eight individual honors. However, Texas A&M-Commerce's Kaydence Ramirez shined for the Lions, taking SLC Player of the Year along with Forward of the Year honors. SFA's Ben Williams earned Coach of the Year, Alex Bayouth took Freshman of the Year, Ava Shannon won Midfielder of the Year and Ella Morgan won Defender of the Year.
UIW's Erica Defferding claimed Goalkeeper of the Year and Newcomer of the Year belonged to Southeastern's Kendall Curran.
Ramirez led the conference in goals with nine while finishing third in points with 21 in just 13 matched played. which she started all of them. Eight of her nine goals came in conference play where she led all players in shots, shots on goal, goals, match-winners and points. She is the first ever A&M-Commerce player to win the conference's Player of the Year award, and the second (Hannah Bell, 2023) to win Forward of the Year.
Williams fueled the Lumberjacks' return to the top of the league in his first season at the helm, positioning SFA with the No. 1 seed at the SLC Women's Soccer Championship. He guided the Lumberjacks to eight wins, amassing 24 points in conference play. Williams is the fifth different SFA head coach to claim this honor and the first since Wally Crittenden in 2015.
The Southland Conference Soccer All-Conference Teams are nominated and voted upon by the conference's head coaches and SIDs.
The Southland Conference Soccer Championship begins Tuesday, November 4 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The semifinals take place on Thursday November 7 with the championship set for Sunday November 10. All games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
