FRISCO, Texas – McNeese outfielder Conner Westenburg and Lamar right-handed pitcher Brooks Caple picked up the Jersey Mike's Southland Baseball Player of the Week awards for the first week of the 2024 season, which were announced Monday by the conference office.
Hitter of the Week: Conner Westenburg, McNeese - Jr. - OF - Porter, Texas (Porter HS)
Over the course of four games, Westenburg slashed .579 behind the plate with six doubles and one home run. He's brought in 8 RBIs, scored three runs, and has hit 11-for-19 at the plate in that time with a slugging percentage of 1.053. He's started all four games for the team this week in the process and has 20 total bases
Honorable Mention: Caley Cameron, UIW; Mitchell Sanford, New Orleans; Garrett Felix, Nicholls
Pitcher of the Week: Brooks Caple, Lamar - Sr. - RHP - Hunter, Texas (Gunter HS)
Brooks Caple was near unhittable in his lone start of the week as he pitched 6.0 scoreless innings of one-hit baseball to pick up the win over Stephen F. Austin. Caple struck out nine batters with only two walks and held SFA to an .059 batting average.
