FRISCO, Texas –Nicholls infielder Garrett Felix and Lamar pitcher Jacob Ellis were named the Jersey Mike's Southland Baseball Players of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office.
Ellis is the third different Lamar pitcher to claim the honor this season while Felix becomes the second Colonel to win the hitter of the week award.
Hitter of the Week: Garrett Felix, Nicholls - Sr. - INF - Scott, La. (Acadiana)
Felix put together an impressive week for the Colonels, hitting 7-for-14 while totaling two doubles and three RBI across four games. He added six walks, marking a .650 on-base percentage for the week that contributed to Nicholls' series sweep of Southeastern. Felix now has the eighth most doubles (10) and RBI (27) with the 10th (20) most walks in the SLC.
Pitcher of the Week: Jacob Ellis, Lamar - Sr. - LHP - Edmond, Okla. (Piedmont HS)
Ellis pitched 9.0 innings of an 11-inning combined no-hitter against McNeese, striking out nine batters with only one blemish coming on a walk in the seventh. The Cardinals' senior did not factor into the decision, but holds a 5-0 mark for the season with a 3.13 ERA.
