Lamar's Caple Named Southland Baseball Student-Athlete of the Year; All-Academic Team Announced

FRISCO – Lamar right-handed pitcher Brooks Caple is the 2024 Southland Conference Baseball Student-Athlete of the Year, the league announced Friday. The announcement comes along with the release of the academic all-conference teams.
 
Caple carried a 3.69 grade point average in general business while being named the Southland Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Caple led the Southland in ERA and innings pitched and posted a 7-3 overall record with a 2.40 ERA, 0.87 WHIP while striking out 102 batters in 97.2 innings pitched and holding opponents to a .170 batting average.
 
All nine Southland baseball institutions were represented among the 2024 Southland Academic All-Conference teams. Five members of the Southland All-Conference Team were automatic qualifiers to the all-academic first team.

The All-Academic teams are voted on by head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance staff members from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.25 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection, and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests on the season, excluding pitchers.
