Theriot, Sanford and Bell Claim First Women's Soccer Player of the Week Awards

FRISCO, Texas – UIW’s Ellie Mai Sanford, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Zoe Theriot and Texas A&M-Commerce’s Hannah Bell have won the first Jersey Mike's Southland Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards of the 2024 season, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Goalkeeper of the Week: Zoe Theriot, A&M-Corpus Christi – Sr. – Forney, Texas (Forney High School) 
Theriot opened the year with a bang, recording a career-high 11 saves in the Islander's season opener against North Dakota. She then posted a clean sheet against Tarleton for her first shutout of the season. The senior played all 90 minutes in A&M-Corpus Christi's first two games.

Defensive Player of the Week: Ellie Mai Sanford – Gr. – Pontypool, Wales (St. Albans RC High School)     
Sanford played 179 minutes in the Cardinals' first two games against Tarleton and UTSA. She also tabbed UIW's lone goal of the week, connecting on a corner piece in a 1-1 draw to Tarleton. 

Offensive Player of the Week: Hannah Bell, A&M-Commerce – Soph. – Dallas, Texas (Duncanville High School)  
Bell was the catalyist in the Lions' scoring outburst in their opener. She netted the team's first two goals in A&M-Commerce's 4-1 win over Oral Roberts. She was the only player across the SLC to score multiple goals in one game last week.
