FRISCO, Texas – Defending Southland Champion Lamar is the preseason favorite for the women's soccer season, the league announced Friday morning. The Cardinals received 20 first-place votes and 200 total points to take the spot.
The Cardinals took home the Southland Conference title with an undefeated season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Texas A&M-Commerce followed in second – with two first-place votes – and 177 points.
McNeese was picked third with 147 points followed by Northwestern State with 130 points. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Southastern, and SFA checked in at fifth, sixth, and seventh. HCU and UTRGV followed in the eighth and nine spot, while UIW and Nicholls filled in the final two spots.
On the preseason all-conference side, Texas A&M-Commerce checked in with 7 selections to lead the way, while Lamar added 5 selections, respectively.
The Southland Conference preseason poll is voted on by each head coach and women's soccer sports information director. Each voter ranks their predicted order of regular season finish, not including their own team.
