FRISCO, Texas – UIW's Griffin Neal and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Alicia Finnis were named the Southland Conference Cross Country Male and Female Runners of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Men’s Athlete of the Week: Griffin Neal, UIW – Sr. – Wimberly, Texas (Wimberly High School)
Neal took home first place at the UIW Invitational, clocking in a 19:44 four-mile time. He helped lead the Cardinals to a first-place finish, defeating Texas State, Northern Colorado, first-year conference member UTRGV, and more.
Women’s Athlete of the Week: Alicia Finnis, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi – Fr. – Salisbury, England, UK
Finnis finished third overall at the Rice Invitational after running a 13:56.70 4K, shaving 30 seconds off her previous 4K time. This is the second meet in a row that Finnis finished as the Islanders top finisher, following her third place finish in the season opener at home. The Salisbury, England, native helped lead the Islanders to a second-place team finish, only trailing the hosts of Rice University.
