Three Southland Schools Nationally Ranked in AFCA Coaches Poll

FRISCO – Lamar moved up in the FCS Top 25 polls, while Southeastern and Stephen F. Austin also saw movement in the national rankings, as announced Monday by both organizations.

Lamar continued its strong climb in both polls, breaking into the Top 15 after securing its sixth straight win. The Cardinals rose to No. 15 in both rankings after a key victory over UTRGV, highlighted by a game-winning 57-yard field goal from Ben Woodard. Big Red will hit the road to face Northwestern State on Saturday.

Stephen F. Austin re-entered the AFCA Poll at No. 24, the same ranking it holds in the Stats Perform Poll. The Jacks rolled Nicholls at home, 34-7, and will travel to take on rival East Texas A&M this weekend.

Southeastern climbed three spots in the AFCA Coaches Poll to No. 19, but somehow remains just outside the Top 25 in the Stats Perform Poll, receiving the most votes among teams not yet ranked. The Lions dominated Northwestern State in their Homecoming matchup, earning their second consecutive shutout. They’ll be back on the road Saturday to face Houston Christian.

UTRGV continues to receive votes in the AFCA Coaches Poll following its heartbreaking loss to Lamar. The Vaqueros welcome defending champion UIW to town on Saturday.
