FRISCO, Texas — New Orleans' Coleton Benson has been named this week's Southland Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Benson is a first-time recipient of the conference's weekly honor.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Coleton Benson, New Orleans – Sr. – G – Austin, Texas (James Bowie High School)
Benson averaged 21.5 points in road games at LSU and Tulane. He finished 11-of-23 this week from the field (.478), including 10-of-19 from beyond the arc (.526). In the Privateers 22-point victory at Tulane on Friday night the senior set a career-high with 33 points, making eight of his 12 three point attempts. That mark was one shy of a Privateers' program record. Benson ranks sixth in the nation with 4.67 three-point field goals per game and a perfect 15-of-15 at the line this season.
