BEAUMONT, Texas —
Defending champion Stephen F. Austin advanced to the Southland Conference semifinals after edging No. 7 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in penalty kicks following a 1–1 draw on Tuesday evening at LU Soccer Complex.

The result marked the Lumberjacks’ NCAA-record 10th draw of the season, as they prevailed 4–2 in the shootout to move on.

SFA (7-3-10) opened the scoring early when Taylor Dodson netted her sixth goal of the season in the third minute, finishing assists from Logan Heausler and Sawyer Kohutek. The Islanders (5-8-6) equalized in the 89th minute after Mai-Lisa Atis converted a penalty kick to force extra time.

Neither side could break through over 110 minutes of play, with SFA holding an 18–16 advantage in shots and a dominant 10–1 margin in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Sierra McCluer made nine saves for the Lumberjacks, while Jessie Spurrell tallied 12 for A&M-Corpus Christi.

SFA stayed composed in the shootout, converting four of five attempts, with Heausler sealing the win from the spot to send the Lumberjacks back to the Southland semifinals for the second straight year.

The Lumberjacks will face either No. 3 Southeastern or No. 6 Lamar on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the LU Soccer Complex.
