BEAUMONT, Texas —
Host Lamar University delivered in front of its home crowd Tuesday night, defeating No. 3 seed Southeastern Louisiana 2–1 to advance to the Southland Conference semifinals.

The sixth-seeded Cardinals (7-7-5) are back in the semifinals for the first time since 2023, when they capped a run of back-to-back league championships. Lamar will now face defending champion Stephen F. Austin on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the LU Soccer Complex.

Lamar grabbed the lead in the 31st minute when Sydney Williams sent a long ball forward that found Kamryn Harvey, who calmly slotted home her first goal of the season.

In the 69th minute, the Cardinals doubled their advantage with one of the tournament’s most impressive moments. Anneliese Switzer delivered a cross into the box, and Kaitlyn Niemeyer met it with a towering header that rocketed into the net for her first goal of the year.

Southeastern (6-8-4) pulled one back in the 83rd minute on a strike from Lainey Connell, but Lamar goalkeeper Eloise Bywater was outstanding, finishing with 10 saves to preserve the victory.

The Lady Lions outshot Lamar 25–16, but the Cardinals’ efficiency and defensive organization proved decisive as they extended their strong postseason form on home soil
