FRISCO – Last season's Southland Baseball Regular Season Champion, the Lamar Cardinals, have been selected as the top team in the Southland Baseball Preseason Poll, as announced by the conference on Thursday afternoon.
Lamar led the preseason poll with 197 points and 18 first-place votes. The Cardinals have three preseason all-conference selections with two on the first team.
Southeastern had four first-place votes and 146 points with six preseason selections, including three first- a conference-hiteamers. McNeese was third with 145 points, and UTRGV was fourth with 144 points and six second-team all-conference selections.
Two-time defending champion Nicholls was fifth with 129 points, while New Orleans was sixth with 128 points. UIW checked in at seven with 95 points with Northwestern State at eighth with 89 points.
Rounding out the preseason poll is Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (73 points), HCU (37 points), and SFA (27 points).
The preseason poll is voted on by head coaches and sports information directors in the conference, with coaches selecting the preseason all-conference team.
The 2025 baseball season begins on Friday, February 14, with all 11 conference teams in action. UIW, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Southeastern, McNeese, Northwestern State, UTRGV, HCU, and Nicholls will all play home contests.
The 2025 Southland Conference Baseball Championship tournament will include bracket play at the No. 1 and 2 seeds on May 15-18, with the two bracket play champions playing in the championship series on May 22-24 at the highest remaining seed. The tournament champion will claim an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
The top eight seeds will qualify for the conference tournament.
