A&M-Corpus Christi's Khatevi, SFA's Kapel Named Jersey Mike's Runners of the Week

FRISCO – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Elizabeth Khatevi and SFA's Nathan Kapel were named the Southland Conference Cross Country Runners of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Men’s Athlete of the Week: Nathan Kapel, SFA– Fr. – Canyon, Texas (Canyon HS)
Kapel won the Demon Invitational 6K title in 18:04.44 crossing the tape 33 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Led SFA men to team title as 'Jacks beat Lamar, McNeese and Northwestern State as well as Louisiana Tech.

Women’s Athlete of the Week: Elizabeth Khatevi, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – So. – Kenya
Khatevi continued her incredible start to the 2025 season in her last meet, taking home the individual victory in the women's 5k at the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational on 9/5 after finishing with a time of 16:36.8, which broke her own school record by nearly 10 whole seconds. The win was the reigning Female Performer of the Week's second in a row to start the year after also doing so at Cross Country at the Seashore on 8/29 and her third in a row when dating back to last year's Southland Conference Championships. In addition, Khatevi helped the Islanders to a dominant win as a team, finishing 35 points clear of second-place TCU.
