FRISCO – SFA running back Jerrell Wimbley, HCU linebacker Rodney Dansby, and SFA wide receiver and specialist Kylon Harris have been named the Southland Conference football weekly award winners for Week 4, the league announced Monday.
Offensive Player of the Week: Jerrell Wimbley, SFA – RB – Sr. – Houston, Texas (C.E. King HS)
Wimbley averaged 13 yards per carry as he totaled 130 yards on ten touches. He delivered five rushes of 10 or more yards including a long of 46 on SFA's second drive and a run of 22 yards early in the second quarter. Wimbley's 130 yards are the most by an SLC player against an FCS foe this season and the third-most in a game through five weeks of play.
Honorable Mention: Jameson Garcia, UIW
Defensive Player of the Week: Rodney Dansby, HCU – LB – R-Sr. – Houston, Texas (Bellaire HS)
Dansby had a monster game against Northern Colorado, racking up 18 tackles with a pick six, a forced fumble and 2 tackles for loss. His 18 tackles fell one shy of the school record for tackles in a game (also his career-high of 19) and marks the 4th time he has had at least 18 tackles in a game. His pick six came early in the 1st quarter, returning it 37 yards to stake HCU to a 7-0 lead. In the 4th quarter, with HCU trailing 20-17 and less than 4 minutes on the clock, Dansby blew through the UNC offensive line and jarred the ball loose behind the line of scrimmage for a turnover that set up Charlie Weinrich for a tying 50-yard field goal that sent the game to overtime.
Honorable Mention: Malachi Williams, SFA
Special Teams Player of the Week: Kylon Harris, SFA – WR – Sr. – Reserve, La. (East St. John HS)
Harris had three punt returns totaling 85 yards including a 65 yard return for a touchdown that gave SFA the lead for good with under six minutes to play before the half. Added three receptions for 20 yards.
Honorable Mention: Charlie Weinrich, HCU
