A&M-Corpus Christi's Khatevi, McNeese's McCarthy Named Jersey Mike's Runners of the Week

FRISCO – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Elizabeth Khatevi and McNeese's Ryan McCarthy were named the Southland Conference Cross Country Runners of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Men’s Athlete of the Week: Ryan McCarthy, McNeese– So. – Cork, Ireland (Kinsale Community School)
McCarthy finishes fourth overall at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede 4-mile race with a personal record time of 19:31.6. He officially finished second behind two unattached runners who crossed the finish line in 1st and 2nd place.

Women’s Athlete of the Week: Elizabeth Khatevi, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – So. – Nairobi, Kenya
Khatevi continued her run of dominance last Friday at the Gans Creek Classic in Missouri, finishing first out of 236 competitors in the 6k Black race after crossing the line with a time of 19:58.8 that was nearly 16 seconds ahead of second place. This performance helped the Islanders finish in second place as a team out of 27, coming in behind only a Stanford team that currently ranks fifth in the most recent USTFCCCA Division I National Coaches' Poll. Khatevi has now won all three races that she has competed in this season after also doing so at Cross Country at the Seashore on August 29 and the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational on September 5 and four in a row dating back to last year's SLC Championships.
