Southeastern's Burns Named Student Athlete of the Year, Softball All-Academic Team Announced

FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern's Hallie Burns has earned the Southland Conference's Softball Student-Athlete of the Year honor, the league announced Thursday along with the All-Academic team.

Burns, the 2026 Southland Softball Pitcher of the Year, had a 3.95 GPA as a Kinesiology major. The sophomore was also a first team-all conference selection, all-tournament team and two-time SLC pitcher of the week. Burns is the first pitcher in school history to be named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year. She is among the Division I leaders in ERA (3rd), shutouts (2nd) and hits allowed per seven innings (5th) ... Ranks among the Division I individual leaders in WHIP (0.86, 8th), hits allowed per seven innings (4.10, 10th) and ERA (1.68, 14th)  The sophomore won 11 straight decisions from March 6-April 14 during a school and conference record 25-game winning streak for the Lions. 
 
Southland Conference All-Academic Teams are nominated by the head coach, sports information director and an academic/compliance staff member from each school. Voting for one’s own athlete for Student-Athelte of the year is not permitted.
 
To be eligible for all-academic distinction, an athlete must hold a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average through the semester prior to the sport’s championship, completed at least one full academic semester at the nominating school prior to the current season, and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competitions during the most recently completed season. Student-Athlete of the Year nominees must have held at least a 3.50 GPA and have completed at least one semester of athletic competition at the nominating school, including the current season.
