FRISCO, Texas — For the first time this season, three student-athletes from the same institution earned Southland Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards in the same week. Lamar forward Kamryn Harvey, defender Riley Wilson and goalkeeper Keely Thomas garnered the recognition, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Offensive Player of the Week: Kamryn Harvey, Lamar – Sr. – F – Cypress, Texas (Cypress Ranch High School)
Harvey scored the game-winning goal against UT Rio Grande Valley with 10 seconds to go, leading LU to a 1-0 victory to open the conference season. This was the latest game-winning goal scored by a Cardinal in the history of the program. Harvey has also scored a goal in each of LU's last three matches.
Defensive Player of the Week: Riley Wilson, Lamar – Sr. – D – Round Rock, Texas (Round Rock High School)
Wilson helped record Lamar third straight shutout victory by fending off 11 shots from UTRGV in a 1-0 win. This was also her sixth game in eight appearances this season in which she wasn't subbed off the pitch. Wilson also took a shot, which just happened to be in the final seconds, right before the Cardinals scored the winning goal.
Honorable Mention: Lainey Connell, Southeastern Louisiana
Goalkeeper of the Week: Keely Thomas, Lamar – GR. – GK – Richmond, Virginia (Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School)
Thomas recorded her second shutout of the season against UT Rio Grande Valley Thursday evening. In the match, she recorded a season-high five saves while facing 11 shots. Among the saves was one that occurred with two minutes remaining, when she deflected a potential game-winning goal from the Vaqueros. Thomas has allowed a league-low two goals and leads the Southland Conference with a 0.43 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.
