Postgame Quotes
UT
Arlington Head Coach Samantha Morrow
Opening
Statement - "I'm real proud of the overall effort of our team. We
were up early and survived UTSA's comeback and to hold on against the defending
champions. That shows a lot of poise by
our girls.
On
Mavs defense - "We worked a lot this week on applying
extra pressure and to convert that into offensive opportunities. We were able
to do that early in the game and held a good lead through the first half. We
knew at some point UTSA would make turn it up and make a comeback and we were
able to survive that because of our defensive effort today. Overall I was very
pleased with our intensity on defense."
UT
Arlington junior forward Shalyn Martin
On
impact of win and moving on - "I think this win was huge for us. We
knew coming into today that we had never beat UTSA in tournament and that was
in the back our minds all day, which really helped push us that much harder."
UT
Arlington senior guard Meghan Nelson
Mindset
with making free throws late in the second half -
"To stay calm, to take each free throw one at a time and I was able to make the
ones that counted late in the game."
UTSA
Head Coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair
Opening
Statement - "First off I want to give UT Arlingon a lot of credit.
It's always a battle when we play each other. It's probably our biggest rivalry
and I thought our kids played with a lot of heart. They never gave up. I
thought we had a chance there at the end to get it done. But it didn't happen.
The ball just didn't bounce our way, we missed some easy layups and you can't
expect to win against a team like UTA with those kind of mistakes."
UTSA
sophomore guard Whitney York
On
early tournament exit - "It was our mindset to obviously win the
tournament and we just couldn't get it done."
UTSA
junior guard Amber Gregg
On early tournament exit -
"We came into the tournament with expectations that we could win the tournament
for a third straight season, and for it to end now is disappointing."
