Postgame Quotes
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Head Coach Robert Robinson
Opening Statement - "I can't say enough how proud I am of our girls today. They came out and played solid defense and got some stops. Offensively, we were a little shaky in the first half but later on we had a good game in transition and were able to knock down some outside shots after establishing our post game inside. Second half we were really dominant in rebounds and were able to pull away denying Sam Houston State fewer second chance points. Overall our girls stepped up the challenge."
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior center Elisa Beagle
On presence with inside scoring - "We got some good bounces, but overall I felt like we were able to control the boards and that led to a lot of second chance points for us."
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior guard/forward Deziree Green
On motivation for coming out strong in second half - "As a team we needed a little push because we just didn't look completely ready to play. But we were able to recover in the second half and do what we needed to do."
Sam Houston State Head Coach Brenda Welch-Nichols
Opening Statement - "I'm proud of my girls and really proud of my seniors. First half I thought we played a really good ball game. We shot the ball well. In the second half our shots just didn't fall and we got dominated on the inside and that was really the big difference in the game. This season we hung in there and did what we needed to do to make the tournament and I'm really proud of my girls.
On senior class and the progress it has made - "They have definitely paved the way for future teams. Our girls never gave up and always kept the faith and that will show in years to come. Their never quit attitude has rubbed off on our younger players and we should have another solid group of players next season."
Sam Houston State senior guard Ray Alexander
On making the tournament as a senior and reaction to today's outcome - "It's hard. We fought all season to get here and it's hard to accept that it's already over. I am glad to have been a part of Sam Houston. I'm glad to be getting my degree from here and I wouldn't trade the last five years for anything."
