Andrew Bechac has been named the Associated Commissioner of Football and Championships at the Southland Conference.
Bechac will serve as the primarily liasion and sports management for the Conference's football and other assigned sports. Bechac served as the Deputy Director of Athletics at Southeastern Louisiana University and has been a key member of the department's senior administrative staff since August 2005.
Bechac oversaw the budget planning, personnel management and scheduling for all Athletics Department Event Management and Facilities. He also asssited with football scheduling, contract development and conference contest confirmations.
During his time at Southeastern, he had been the chair of or served on numerous search committees and various operational committees. He also played a major role in the upgrade of athletic facilities throughout campus. Bechac also was a part of the operations team assisting the Southland Conference at the NCAA Division I Football Championship and the Southland Conference Basketball Championships.
Bechac began his foray into collegiate athletics as a Championships Assistant at the Sun Belt Conference. He assisted with game operations and award ceremonies as varius SBC championship events, as well as the New Orleans Bowl.
Prior to his time in the Sun Belt, Bechac established himself as a successful coach in the Louisiana high school ranks. He enjoyed his most success at Pope John Paul II High School, where he was named the District Coach of the Year in both football and soccer. He also served head football coaching tenures at Bogalusa High School, Northshore High School and Clifton L. Ganus School. He also had assistant football and baseball duties at Teurlings Catholic High School and The St. Paul School.
Bechac earned his bachelor's degree in history in 1990 from Loyola University in New Orleans, where he was also a member of the baseball team. He also earned a master's of science in secondary teaching from Loyola in 2003.
Bechac and his wife Margaret reside in Hammond. The couple are the parents of two daughters, Meredith and Camille, and a son, Evan.
