Southland Conference Spring 2017 Commissioner’s Honor Roll

FRISCO, Texas – A total of 1,371 student-athlete were named to the Spring 2017 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, the league announced Tuesday.
 
This semester’s honor roll boasted 280 perfect 4.00 GPAs across the sports of baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s track & field.
 
“We are always very pleased to see the ever-growing list of Honor Roll recipients,” Southland Commissioner Tom Burnett said.
 
“Our institutions and their athletic academic staffs are to be congratulated again for an increasing focus on classroom achievement that matches and surpasses our collective competitive successes. The members of the Southland Conference continue to provide our nearly 4,200 student-athletes an outstanding academic experience that leads to lifelong success.”
 
UIW led the way with 134 total honorees, including 20 with perfect GPA marks. Including the Fall 2016 list, the Cardinals earned 229 spots on both Commissioner’s Honor Rolls.
 
McNeese and Central Arkansas followed with 128 and 125 athletes named, respectively. The Cowboys and Cowgirls posted 26 perfect GPAs while UCA had 21.
 
Five more schools named over 100 student-athletes to this semester’s list, with Abilene Christian (121), Sam Houston State (113), Stephen F. Austin (109), Houston Baptist (104), Southeastern Louisiana (104) and Northwestern State (103) all cracking the triple-digit mark.
 
Lamar named 98 student-athletes to the spring list, followed by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (97), New Orleans (73) and Nicholls (63).
 
The Southland has named a total of 2,379 student-athletes to both the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 Commissioner’s Honor Rolls with a total 481 perfect GPAs across all men’s and women’s sports.
 
The Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the league and its member institutions. The honor roll recognizes student-athletes who maintained a minimum 3.00 GPA. Student-athletes must have been eligible to compete in a conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.
