FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Kayla White and Southeastern’s Rachel Hartmann and Gracie Duplechein earn volleyball weekly awards, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Offensive Player of the Week: Kailin Newsome, Southeastern – Sr. – OH – Houston, Texas (Clear Brook HS)
Kailin Newsome averaged 6.92 points per set as SLU swept two more opponents, winning their 11th and 12th consecutive matches. Newsome down 6.17 kills per set on a .394 attack percentage while also picking up her 11th and 12th double-doubles on the year. Against the conference's best blocking team in Northwestern State, Newsome had 21 kills (7.0 K/S average) on a .366 attack percentage, while also getting two serve aces and a solo block of her own as the Lady Lions avenged its lone loss from the first round of conference play. Newsome had a .433 attack percentage leading to 16 kills earlier in the week on the road at Lamar, adding two assists, a serve ace, and a block assist against the Cardinals. This is Newsome's third selection as Offensive Player of the Week.
Defensive Player of the Week: Bailey Tillman, McNeese – Jr. – L – Sugar Land, Texas (Fort Bend Austin)
Bailey Tillman once again led McNeese in digs with 46 for an average of 7.67 per set. Tillman began her week with a match high 25 digs against Northwestern State then ended with another match high 21 in the win over Houston Christian. Tillmannow has picked up 10 or more digs in 17 matches and 20 or more in nine matches including the last four. McNeese is 7-2 in conference play. This is Tillman's second selection as Defensive Player of the Week.
Setter of the Week: Belle Morgan, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – Grad. – S – Fort Mitchel, Ky. (Villanova)
Belle Morgan ran the offense to an astounding .403 efficiency on the undefeated week, including a .506 against New Orleans which broke the all-time program record and is the highest hitting percentage by any Southland team this season. Morgan averaged 10.50 assists per set and recorded four service aces in each match (eight total). Morgan added six kills against New Orleans for a .856 mark while picking up seven digs against Nicholls. This is Morgan's fourth selection as Setter of the Week.
