FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls' Jamal West Jr. has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the opening week of the regular season, as announced Monday by the conference office.
Offensive Player of the Week: Jamal West Jr., Nicholls – F - Jr. – Baltimore, Md. (St. Frances Academy)
Jamal West Jr. averaged 19.0 points on 57.1 percent from the field, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the Colonels' two games against Louisiana's top programs. In his debut at Tulane, West poured in 24 points on 9 of 12 from the field while adding seven rebounds and four assists. He then scored 14 in the Colonels' win over LSU and recorded his fourth assist on Jalen White's last second game-winning three-pointer. West's defense helped keep LSU under 40 percent from the field and he also had three steals.
