UIW Wins Commissioner Cup, Southland Announces Special Award Winners

FRISCO, Texas – UIW won the 2022-23 Southland Conference Commissioner’s Cup for the second straight season, the league announced Tuesday.

UIW also claimed the Men’s All-Sports Award with the football regular-season title and Triple Crown in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. The Cardinals totaled 63.5 points on the men’s side and finished third in the women’s race with 53.5 points.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar tied for the Women’s All-Sports Award. The Islanders took home their second straight all-sports trophy on the women's side with 64.5 points, taking home regular-season crowns in women's basketball, women's tennis, and beach volleyball.

The Cardinals claimed their first-ever all-sports trophy, also finishing with 64.5 points and regular season titles in women's soccer and outdoor track and field.

Additionally, the Southland Conference announced two other special awards winners for the calendar year.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won the Academic Performance Award for the second consecutive year. The Islanders had the highest APR in the conference and captured 79% of the maximum points they could score based on conference sports they sponsor.

Northwestern State was awarded the Community Service Award, which is presented annually to an institutional Student-Athlete Advisory Committee that has exhibited exceptional community service.
