Lamar wins program's first Southland Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship, NSU's Butler is Most Outstanding Performer

COMMERCE, Texas – The Lamar Cardinals took home their first-ever Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship with a 10-point win over Northwestern State.

Northwestern State’s Sanaria Butler claimed Most Outstanding Performer honor, scoring 30.5 points with runner-up honors in the 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, and triple jump, fifth place points in the long jump, and a quarter of the champion 4x400 meter relay team.
 
Lamar’s cause was aided by four gold medals on Saturday, with Crisstin Riley winning the triple jump at 12.94 meters (42’ 5 ½”), Sydne Porter winning the 200 meter dash (23.60 seconds), Chloe Rodriguez winning the 400 meter hurdles (58.81 seconds) and Yasmin Austridge winning the 800 meter run (2:09.96). Austridge had also previously won the 3,000 meter steeplechase and Parl Eelma was the heptathlon champion.
 
The Lady Demons won both the 4x100 meter relay (44.99 seconds) and the 4x400 meter relay (3:35.77) and saw Lynelle Washington win the 100 meter dash (11.45 seconds), Vanessa Balde win the 100 meter hurdles (13.46 seconds), Maygan Shaw win the 400 meter dash (52.79 seconds).
 
Other Saturday event winners included HCU’s Jessica Rabius winning both the 1,500 meter run (4:34.95) and 5,000 meter run (17:35.27) and A&M-Commerce’s Veronika Kramarenko winning the high jump (1.80 meters, 5’ 10 ¾”).
