Northwestern State’s Banuelos, A&M-Corpus Christi’s Loetzer, & Lamar’s Massey scoop Week 4 Women’s Soccer Players of the Week awards.
FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State’s Libe Banuelos, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Rachel Loetzer, and Lamar’s Hollie Massey are the winners of this week’s Jersey Mike’s Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Goalkeeper of the Week: Libe Banuelos, Northwestern State – Jr. – Deusto, Basque (Botikazar)
Banuelos kept a clean sheet in Northwestern State’s 2-0 victory over Jackson State on Friday to start the weekend. The Basque native then made a career-high 10 saves on Sunday in the Demons’ narrow 2-1 defeat at LSU. Banuelos leads the SLC in saves per game, making 33 across 7 games, an average of 4.71 per contest.
Honorable Mention: Nicole Panis, Lamar
Defensive Player of the Week: Rachel Loetzer, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – Jr. – Frisco, TX (Memorial High School)
Loetzer scored one of the Islanders’ three goals in their 3-1 road victory at Tarleton State. Loetzer has scored twice and assisted once in 7 games this season. Loetzer has been a key cog in the defensive efforts of the Islanders, helping them to a 3-3-1 start to the season, and was last week named Honorable Mention Defensive Player of the Week. The Islanders are riding a 3 game unbeaten streak as they look towards a showdown with UTRGV on Thursday.
Offensive Player of the Week: Hollie Massey, Lamar - Gr. - Cheshire, England (Congleton High School)
Massey scored twice in two wins for the Cardinals this past weekend. Firstly, she netted the third goal of an explosive first half against Southern, before secondly scoring the opener (and game-winning goal) in the impressive 2-0 road win at Louisiana. The Englishwoman has three goals in five games this season, which makes her Lamar’s leading scorer up to this point.
